FEED TROUGH STARTERS!

These recipes are designed for slow cooker meals but can easily be adapted for an Instant Pot or prepared on the stovetop in a skillet.

For slow cooker preparation:

  • LOW: Cook for 5 to 6 hours
  • HIGH: Cook for 3 to 4 hours

FEED TROUGH STARTER GUIDE FOR CAJUN

Jambalaya

Grocery List: Up to 3 lbs total of smoked sausage, chicken, shrimp, crawfish, or your favorite combination of Cajun proteins, 2 cups water, chicken broth, or your favorite cooking liquid, 3 cups uncooked white rice, 1 bunch scallions (optional garnish)

Place your choice of meats into the slow cooker. Mix and match the proteins to suit your family's taste. If using raw chicken, ensure it is fully cooked before serving. (If using shrimp or crawfish, add them during the last 30 to 45 minutes of cooking to prevent overcooking.)

Add the cooking liquid and 1 package of Feed Trough Starter CAJUN.

Cook on your desired setting:

  • LOW: 5 to 6 hours
  • HIGH: 3 to 4 hours

Prepare the rice according to the package directions. Once the meat is fully cooked, stir the cooked rice into the slow cooker until well combined.

Garnish with chopped scallions and serve in bowls.

Red Beans & Rice

Grocery List: 1 lb dried red beans, 12 oz smoked sausage, 3 cups uncooked white rice, 1 package Feed Trough Starter CAJUN

Place the dried red beans into your slow cooker and add the amount of water recommended on the bean package.

Slice the smoked sausage into bite-sized pieces and add it to the slow cooker along with 1 package of Feed Trough Starter CAJUN.

Cook on your desired setting until the beans are tender:

  • LOW: 6 to 8 hours
  • HIGH: 4 to 5 hours

Prepare the rice according to the package directions.

Serve the red beans and sausage over a bed of hot rice.
