YUM-A-DOODLE COOKIES
Grocery List:
- 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1½ cups granulated sugar
- 4 tablespoons granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 eggs
- 4 teaspoons Feed Trough Starter CHINESE 5 SPICE
Preheat the oven to 375°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the shortening and 1½ cups of sugar. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Gradually stir in the flour mixture until a soft dough forms.
In a small bowl, combine the remaining 3 tablespoons of sugar with the Feed Trough Starter CHINESE 5 SPICE.
Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls, then coat each ball in the sugar mixture.
Place the cookie dough balls about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets. Gently flatten each one with the bottom of a glass.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. The cookies will continue to crisp as they cool, so avoid overbaking. They should be lightly golden around the edges.
Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for several days or freeze for longer storage.
