FEED TROUGH STARTERS!
Remember individual taste will vary. This is a guide, and you can always make changes at your degression. We would love to here from you about how you’ve loved our product and any changes that have been made do we could pass on the fellow home cooks and customers everywhere. These recipes are designed for slow cooker meals, however, they can be slightly modified for an instaPot or prepared on a stove top with a skillet. Setting your slow cooker to LOW you will need to allow 5-6 hours for cooking. A HIGH setting will shorten the cooking time to 3-4 hours.
FEED TROUGH STARTER GUIDE FOR CHINESE 5 SPICE
VENISON THE YUM WAY!
Grocery List: 3-4 lbs of Venison, 1 package of green onions, 1 12oz bottle or can of beer
In a slow cooker place the venison, green onions cut into 2-inch pieces, bottle or can of beer and 1 package of Feed Trough Starter CHINESE 5 SPICE. Set your desired temperature. The longer the cook the more tender it will be. About an hour before it’s finished prepare mashed potatoes or favorite side. Enjoy!
5 SPICE PORK & NOODLES
Grocery List: 3 lbs pork shoulder, scallions, 1 small package of mushrooms, 1 48 oz chicken broth, 1 package of egg noodles
In a slow cooker place pork shoulder, chicken broth and scallions cut into 2 inch pieces, mushrooms and 1 package of Feed Trough Starter CHINESE 5 SPICE. Set your desired temperature. Once chicken is done, prepare egg noodles as directed by the package. Once noodles are done, combine with pork in the crock pot. Enjoy!
FANTASTIC STEW
Grocery List: Stew Meat 2-3 lbs or Pork Sholder, Birria or Lamb Shank, 2 lbs frozen vegetables
In a slow cooker place 2-3 lbs of your favorite meat. (Beef, Pork, Lamb, Birria, etc.), 2-3 cups of water or liquid of your choice. 1 package of Feed Trough Starter CHINESE 5 SPICE. Place in a 2 lb package of frozen mixed veggies. Set your desired temperature. About an hour before the finish prepare mashed potatoes. Serve in a bowl and enjoy!
FAUX PHÓ
Grocery List: 1 lb thinly sliced beef, chicken or pork, shredded carrots, shredded radish, sliced mushrooms, bok choy, green onions and bean sprouts
In a slow cooker place 2-4 quarts of water depending upon the size of your cooker. Place in your desired vegetables except bok choy and add 1 package of Feed Trough Starter CHINESE 5 SPICE. Set your desired temperature. About 30 minutes before you’re ready to eat place your meat and bok choy in PHÓ broth. Once meat is done, you’re ready to serve. Add bean sprouts if you desire. Enjoy!
YUM-A-DOODLE COOKIES
Grocery List: 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, 1 teaspoon baking soda, ½ teaspoon salt, 1 ½ cups + 3 tablespoons sugar, divided, 1 cup shortening, 2 eggs, 2 teaspoons Chinese 5 Spice
Preheat oven to 375 F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
In a large missing bowl, cream the 1 ½ cups sugar and shortening. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing after each addition. Stir in the flour mixture until combined.
In a small bowl, stir together the remaining 3 tablespoons sugar and the Feed Trough Starter Chinese 5 Spice.
Roll the dough into walnut sized balls and roll the balls in the sugar mixture to coat.
Place the cookie dough balls about 2 inches apart on you prepared baking sheets. Flatten them a little with the bottom of a glass.
Bake the cookies for 8 to 10 minutes. They will crisp up as they cool, so don’t overbake them. The cookies should be just slightly golden around the edge.
Gently remove the cookies to a wire rack to cool. Once completely cool, leftover cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days, or frozen for prolonged freshness.
